I spent ten years turning airline data into decisions that moved real numbers.

Most recently I was Manager of Operational Intelligence at Copa Airlines, leading a team of nine analysts supporting more than 400 daily departures. Over that stretch Copa was the most punctual airline in Latin America two years running. My work sat behind that: fuel and block-time optimization, the executive dashboards tracking 90%+ on-time performance, and the data warehouse the rest of it depended on.

Before that, pricing and revenue management intelligence. A schedule-change re-accommodation engine that moved NPS by two points. A $1.6M digital transformation. M.S. Analytics from Georgia Tech, B.S. Computer Science from Harding University.

Why this site exists

Most data writing has one of two problems. It assumes you already know everything, or it explains so little you can't actually use it. Neither helps the analyst staring at output they're about to put in front of an executive.

So I write the version I wanted when I was starting: the real numbers, the code that produced them, and the judgment calls nobody writes down. When I say R-squared went from 0.818 to 0.856 and the model got worse, the dataset is downloadable and the two lines of R are in the post. You can check me.

The mission

Data Awesome is a community for sharing and learning about data, at any level. The only thing you really need is curiosity and the will to learn something every day.

It does not matter where you come from or how much you know today. Every career in data starts the same way: with a question you actually care about and the stubbornness to chase the answer. The rest is learnable.
